So it's been a hot hour since I last put anything of worth up here, and while I can make the excuse that it's because of my schedule, that would be a fat lie for two reasons. One: I have nothing but time now that I've graduated, work for myself, and have no bills to pay; with the only thing keeping me from becoming a basement dweller is the low hum of fear over precisely that, as well a proper beard line. And two, I have thought of things to write about; they're just all around the same God-forsaken thing.

That being the Fire Emblem series but more frequently the realization that I despise Three Houses and the overall direction the series is moving. Which would be fun, for a bit, to systematically demolish a game that made back its development cost nearly tenfold - that figure is hyperbole, do not quote me on that, but Three Houses has outsold every previous Fire Emblem by order of millions – and would quickly lose its allure at the same pace milk does when placed in the sun. So, I shelved the idea and its many iterations and spin-offs, hoping something better would come along. Now I could write the damn thing to get it out there so I can at least say I've done something about it, but I've already gone to the Fire Emblem well enough times that I'm going to start scooping up mud. Even articles not about the series still contain references to it, and while it can be argued that they are just a part of my gaming lexicon, I can easily default. The problem arises in the same way when you realize your vocabulary is considerably smaller than you once thought: you start to repeat yourself.

Which is something I would like to try and avoid moving forward; no doubt I've done it in the past, but long as it's not repeated, I can call it progress. Sticking with the vocabulary metaphor: if you are trying to build up your verbal arsenal to sound smarter or more effervescent but can only manage a choice selection, people are going to start to notice a pattern, and once a pattern is set, it's hard to ignore. Not to say that patterns are all bad, but sometimes it's helpful to have guiderails to help get people to what you're trying to get to, but if they are set down without your notice, things can get drab quickly.

Sadly the only way I know to identify those rails is to get off the ride and look for them, hence the long wait. However, seeing how I am, in all likely hood, the only one reading these, there's no real harm there; if this was my job or I had a following, that would be a different question altogether, but thankfully it's not. So, for now, it's just about one man racking his brain trying to come up with something interesting to say that doesn't double back on things he's already said. Because at the end of the day, that's no fun to read or write, I might as well try and come up with something new to say. Hopefully, before I nestle in for a forever box nap - but hey, I got this out, so again, progress.

(Also, upon uploading this I realized that I made a rail metaphor before already in the last post. Which, while making me weep internally, is a rather excellent example to point to.)
