The past four months have been educational to say the least. I came into this semester with an odd combination of confidence, excitement and nerve biting dread only to have that confidence ripped apart and that dread triple in size; with a lot of the growth that follows mainly being from me piecing back together that confidence and getting that dread under control. A path mainly constructed by strengthening people and planning skills, starting by simply being more open with team members. A difficult task for anyone but with a bit of hindsight that work was well spent. With myself being more open with the team it helps them grow more comfortable around my and each other, leading to a better work environment that allows for issues to arise more easily with a higher chance of getting solved. I have also grown more assertive then in the past, a major hindrance that has been pulling me down for the longest time. However, I am still working on that trying to find that sweat spot of in control but not unreasonable or a massive jerk. As for planning, well if anything I now have a better picture of what game development looks like, the kind of problems that might arise, the kind of people I’ll work with and the expectations put on me. Before then I had a lose understanding of the former but nothing with much weight and expertise behind it, causing me to feel a tad over powered in cases when I barely understood what to do. However now that I have actual experience under my belt I can back that up somewhat but hopefully I have also gained enough hindsight to not fall into that pit again.
