Underestimating

There has not been to many times when I underestimated how much time or effort a certain project of paper will take. A streak I would probably attribute to one nearly missed project I had back in middle school. See, I had recently re-entered standard education after being home schooled for two years. So I did not have a good handle on what kind of responsibilities and time commitment certain assignments carried. Culminating in me pushing off a Social studies project until the night before, mainly because my tinny seventh grade brain had only done single night assignments so it assumed that one night would be fine to complete a poster. That turned into a rude awakening when I started working and by the time I got about a quarter of the way done, it was bed time. What followed was a hard life lesson taught by my parents as they scrammed to help me finish the thing on time, never assume projects are going to be easy. A mentality that has stuck around with me to this very day. Now every time I hear the word ‘project’ or ‘paper’ I assume at least one week worth of work is going to be needed. And if it’s a final project or paper I assume at least one month is needed. So if I had to boil this all down into a couple of easy take always are this: first, never assume papers or projects can be done in a day. That mentality is just going to lead to rushed work and poor mental health. Second, take what ever you think is going to be the minimum amount of time and double it cause you never know what life is going to throw your way and what’s going to have to change in order to balance everything else in your life out.
